5-MTHF (5-methyltetrahydrofolate) (Xymogen) is the most biologicallyactive form of the water-soluble B vitamin,
folic acid. It is thepreferred form of folate supplementation due, primarily, tothe poor absorption of folic
acid when liver disease, geneticenzyme defects, or gastrointestinal conditions?especiallythose involving
malabsorption?are present. Data suggestthat supplementing with 5-MTHF increases plasma folatemore
effectively than folic acid. In this formula, 5-MTHF isprovided as Quatrefolic??the glucosamine salt of
5-MTHF.Quatrefolic is proven to have greater stability, solubility, andbioavailability over calcium salt forms of
5-MTHF.
