Each OncoPLEX? SGS? (Xymogen) capsule contains 30 mg sulforaphane glucosinolate (SGS?), a natural, long-lasting antioxidant and detoxifi er found in broccoli, broccoli sprouts, and broccoli seeds. SGS? contributes to the integrity of all cells, promoting health and well-being. Since its discovery, more than 200 publications from universities worldwide have underscored the signifi cance of sulforaphane glucosinolate. SGS? activates the
body?s natural detoxifi cation and antioxidant enzymes, protecting cells from free radical damage.
Sulforaphane, an isothiocyanate, is a compound that was isolated and identifi ed by researchers in 1992.
It is likely responsible for the well-documented epidemiological evidence which suggests that diets rich in
cruciferous vegetables?especially broccoli?may reduce the risk of cancer. Sulforaphane glucosinolate
(SGS), the precursor of sulforaphane, is present in cruciferous vegetables and is especially abundant
in certain varieties of broccoli, broccoli sprouts, and broccoli seeds. Isothiocynates are plant secondary
metabolites. That is, when the plant is cut or chewed, the glucosinolates are broken down enzymatically into
sulforaphane and other biologically-active compounds. The same amount of sulforaphane is contained in 20
ounces of mature broccoli as in 200 mg of broccoli seed extract. Glucosinolates ingested directly without
enzymatic hydrolysis are converted to isothiocyanates by the intestinal microfl ora.
